NDIS Participate Community

Life Is Better When You Are Part of It

Getting out, connecting with people, and joining in on the things you enjoy matters just as much as anything that happens at home. Serene Life matches you with the right support worker and the right activities so your community life feels genuinely good.

More Than Getting Out of the House

Participate Community (NDIS Support Category 0125) helps you take part in social and community activities. It is funded through Core Supports in your NDIS plan and is one of the most flexible supports available. A Serene Life support worker accompanies you to activities and events, helps you get there safely, and ensures you can participate fully and comfortably. The activities are driven entirely by your interests and goals.

A Familiar Face Makes All the Difference

Serene Life matches you with the same support worker over time so a genuine rapport develops. They learn what you enjoy, how you like to engage, and what makes an outing truly enjoyable for you. This consistency builds confidence and makes each session feel easier than the last.

Clinical Support Available When You Need It

For participants with health needs, Serene Life has Registered Nurses (RNs) and Enrolled Nurses (ENs) available to support you in the community. You should never have to choose between getting out and feeling safe. The Serene Life team ensures both are possible.

What You Can Do With This Support

Community participation looks different for every person. Here are some of the most common ways Serene Life participants use their 0125 support:

Social Activities and Events

Community events, local festivals, markets, sporting events, or any social activity you enjoy. Serene Life supports you to take part in activities that interest you, with someone experienced by your side.

Sport, Fitness, and Recreation

Gyms, swimming pools, walking groups, dance classes, and sports clubs. Physical activity is good for your health and social life, and the Serene Life team helps you access all of it.

Hobbies and Interest Groups

Art, music, gardening, gaming, cooking, or something else entirely. Serene Life helps you find and join groups that share your interests. Doing something you love with other people is one of the most natural ways to build connection.

Volunteering

If you want to give back to your community, Serene Life can help you find a volunteer role that suits your skills and availability and support you to participate confidently.

Shopping, Errands, and Appointments

Going to the shops, visiting a library, attending appointments, or running errands can all be part of community participation. If these involve being out in the community and need support, they fall under this category.

Visiting Friends and Family

Staying connected with the people you care about is a big part of a good life. Serene Life supports you to visit friends and family, attend celebrations, and maintain those relationships.

Trying Something New

A museum, a new restaurant, a concert, or a part of the city you’ve never explored. Serene Life supports you to try new experiences safely and with confidence.

Who Is This Support For?

Participate Community support is for NDIS participants who face barriers to getting out and connecting with others. These barriers can take many forms:

People Who Feel Isolated or Lonely

Isolation is a genuine health risk for people with disability. Serene Life gives you a regular reason to get out and connect with others. Having a familiar, trusted support worker alongside you can make social situations feel far less daunting.

People Who Need Help Getting Around

Transport is one of the most common barriers to community life. A Serene Life support worker can travel with you on public transport, drive you to activities, or help you plan the best route. For those in SIL homes, a car and driver are also available across Sydney, Adelaide, Newcastle, and Canberra.

People Who Want to Build Social Confidence

A Serene Life support worker gives you a familiar, trusted person by your side in social settings. Over time, many participants find they need less support as their confidence grows naturally.

Family Carers Who Need a Break

When you are out in the community with a Serene Life support worker, family carers get genuine time to rest. That is a real benefit for the whole family, not just the participant.

Young People Stepping Into Adult Life

Moving from school into adult life is a significant transition. Serene Life helps young people with disability build social connections, explore interests, and find their place in their local community as they grow into independence.

People New to the NDIS

Community participation is often one of the first supports people access when beginning their NDIS journey. It is flexible, enjoyable, and a great way to experience what good, person-centred support feels like.

How to Get Started With Serene Life

Participate Community (0125) is funded through Core Supports and is one of the more flexible supports in your plan. Here’s how Serene Life gets things moving:

Step 1: Check Your Core Supports Budget
Open your NDIS plan and look at your Core Supports budget. Participate Community (0125) draws from this budget. Your plan manager or support coordinator can confirm how much is available and what it covers.

Step 2: Tell Serene Life What You Enjoy
Serene Life starts with a simple conversation about your interests, goals, and the kinds of activities you want to try. There is no fixed program—everything is built around you.

Step 3: Serene Life Finds Your Right Match
Serene Life matches you with a support worker who suits your personality, communication style, and location. A good match makes a real difference in how much you get out of every session.

Step 4: You Choose Your Activities
You decide what you do and when. The Serene Life team helps you find activities in your local area, plan sessions, and organise transport. You are in control at every point.

Step 5: Get Out and Enjoy It
Your Serene Life support worker meets you at home or at the activity. They support you to participate fully, travel safely, and have a genuinely good experience. After each session, the team checks in to ensure everything is working well.

Can you use 0125 and group programs at the same time?

Yes. Some participants use one-on-one community participation support alongside group-based programs under 0136 Group and Centre Activities. These are separate NDIS categories, and your plan may include funding for both. Speak to your support coordinator to see what is available in your plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between 0125 and 0136?

Support Category 0125 is one-on-one support. A Serene Life support worker accompanies you to activities of your choice. Support Category 0136 is group-based. You join a program or activity with other participants. Both sit under Core Supports, and some people have funding for both in their plan.

Can my support worker drive me to activities?

Yes. Serene Life support workers can drive you to and from activities using their own vehicle or yours. Standard NDIS transport rates apply when a worker uses their own vehicle. Any travel costs are discussed upfront before sessions begin. Your worker can also travel with you on public transport.

Does this support cover entry fees and activity costs?

No. The 0125 funding covers the cost of your support worker’s time. It does not cover entry fees, memberships, tickets, or activity costs. You pay those separately. Your support coordinator or plan manager can help you check whether any activity costs can be claimed under a different part of your plan.

Can I change activities if I want to try something new?

Yes. This support is flexible, and you are not locked into a fixed program. If you want to stop one activity and try something different, let the Serene Life team know—they will update your schedule and find new options that suit you.

What if I have communication needs or need extra support in public?

Serene Life takes communication needs seriously when matching you with a support worker. The team asks about your communication style during intake so your worker is well prepared before the first session.

How many hours can I use each week?

This depends on how much Core Supports funding is in your NDIS plan. Some participants use a few hours a week; others use this support daily. Your plan manager or support coordinator can confirm what your budget allows.

I am a support coordinator. How do I refer a participant?

Serene Life works with support coordinators regularly on 0125 referrals. Call or email the team, and someone will respond within one business day. The Serene Life team is happy to join planning meetings and help match participants with the right activities and workers from day one.
